If you have a projector and/or come from a plasma TV, the jerkiness (low frame rate judder) you get on an OLED due to the display & hold technology is really noticeable with some 24p content. It’s a terrible description of the effects of motion smoothing. My take on OLED motion Jerkiness (Slow Frame Rate Judder):įirstly, I really dislike the term Soap Opera effect. Does this mean I just got used to that look? Now, everything just looks smooth in terms of motion - but when I first got the TV, the motion settings DEFINITELY had me thinking things looked "weird" with the ultra-smoothing they were giving film content. Now, if you never experienced what I'm talking about with regard to the "soap opera effect," where FILM content LOOKS like real-time VIDEO, I don't know what to say but I DEFINITELY have experienced that with the motion controls either turned up too high (specifically the Judder Reduction control on my Samsung, which affects 24FPS FILM content) or when I first got the display.
In other words, when I first got my LCD, I was coming from a rear projection SXRD Sony display, so using the Auto Motion Plus (the name Samsung gives to their motion interpolation system) settings was a shock to my eye at first - but now that I have been living with the LCD for a couple of years, I don't notice that "hyper-real" look that these motion systems give film content.I'm wondering if I just got used to it. I'm asking if it's normal to kind of get used to this look after it initially appears like the "video-ish" effect. Click to expand. No, I think you're misunderstanding me.I agree with using the motion controls.
